Your Ship The good news: Your ship is a state-of-the-art V-17 Screaming Emu built by Grumm Enterprises Inc., the best ship available in the InterGalactic Space Force fleet. It has the following features: • Durapower Cells -- The V-17's gizmotronic fuel cells have a predicted lifetime of fifteen million years, so you'll never run out of power to engines and weapons. • Grumm Blaster Cannon -- The Emu comes with two preinstalled blasters mounted fore and aft, allowing you full firepower while boldly engaging or wimpily fleeing from an enemy. • Shielding -- Protection is a priority in armed space combat. The V-17 has emergency shields capable of withstanding about 12 collisions. The shields activate automatically in the event of a crash or contact with enemy weapon fire. The bad news: The V-17 is the only ship available in the IGSF fleet, and it was constructed by the lowest bidder. In order to come in only three trillion credits over budget, Grumm had to cut some corners. The major problems include: • Navigation systems -- The V-17 is capable of flying only in eight cardinal directions due to a software foul-up. Grumm CEO Biff Smurdson claims "Eight directions is more than enough for anybody. Sheesh, my groundcar only goes in forward and reverse." • Deceleration systems -- Grumm had designed a four billion credit deceleration system (called InertiAway™) but it was too costly to be included in the V-17. Cheaper last-minute replacements were ordered but never delivered, so the final product has only one speed and never stops. Smurdson's comment: "Hey, that's a feature, not a problem. Fewer moving parts, less complex piloting -- this is an idea we'll use in future models." Docking technicians at IGSF starbases were less enthusiastic.
